Ductwork Flange Gasket Sealing Tapes
Common tape widths
Most flanges are between 1" and 2" in width, with some extending to 2 1/4 or 2 1/2" wide. Most flanges utilize a 1/4" stud line to join the flange faces. Some may be 3/8" studs.
Tapes to interface between the flange faces are available in Plain construction and Bolt-Hole Drop Warp construction (LadderTape™). Using a plain tape, a length of tape is installed along the inside of the bolt hole line, and another length of tape is installed on the outside of the bolt hole line. In this case the tape is typically less than 1/2 of the width of the flange width - so for example, on a 1 1/2" flange, the tape width may only be 1/2" wide.
Using a Bolt-Hole Drop Warp construction tape (LadderTape™), the tape is installed as one piece along the bolt hole line, pressing the center gap of the tape over the studs. In this case the tape is typically similar in width, or the same width, as the flange width.
In the case of plain construction style tapes, to hold the tapes in place while the duct work is handled, the tapes may have PSA on them, or sealant may be used (such as DuctSeal™).
Then the flange is assembled, using Sealant, and the faces are compressed by adding the nuts to the flange bolts.
Material Types and Construction Types
3 material types of tapes are available, and 3 construction types:
- 1500°F Vermiculite Coated Fiberglass / Plain construction or Bolt-Hole Drop-Warp construction
- 1800°F Silica / Plain construction or Bolt-Hole Drop-Warp construction or Slit construction
- 2000°F Ceramic Fiber / Plain construction or Bolt-Hole Drop-Warp construction
Most duristrictions require either a 1500°F rated gasket tape, or a fire exposure rated gasket tape. DuctSeal™ tapes cover both ratings.
Tapes are available in a variety of thicknesses - allowing for ductwork surface variances. For very true metalwork, thin tapes can be used - for ductwork with surface trueness variance a thicker tape with more compression range can be used.
- 1/32" (0.031") woven tapes
- 1/32" (0.030") slit tape with adhesive
- 7/128" (0.054") slit tape with adhesive
- 1/16" (0.062") woven tapes
- 11/128" (0.090") slit tapes
- 1/8" (0.125") woven tapes
- 23/128" (0.180") slit, folded & stitched tapes
- 1/4" (0.250") woven tapes
Tape are available with a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) added. Tapes can also be held in place during fitting with our high temperature food contact approved sealant.
Duct Flange Gasket RTV Sealing Adhesive Sealant
RTV high temperature sealant can be used to seal the joints of ductwork to prevent grease migration. FDA approved.
Also used to adhere tapes to metalwork while fitting access doors into place.
Duct Access Doors
Rectangular flat and curved access doors made from Heavy Duty 16 gauge steel. Stainless steel available.
Also available with extended studs to accommodate fire wrap. The back frame reinforces the duct cut-out.
Standard and custom sizes available. The gasket is pre-installed and bonded to the front panel.
